Shibobo's New Sponsor

This year’s Shibobo league has broken barriers to bring in a new sponsor in the form of Ali Mahomed’s parents who, reportedly, is the incumbent organiser of the event. He has succeeded Boasa Robert and Thato Ungwang. This year, the tournament will be sponsored by an energy drink company rather than Barclays. The tournaments rules have not changed, however, the dates may need to be amended on the school calendar because as it is, the tournament will be held on the day that all the senior sports teams will be leaving for their Swaziland sports trip.

I cannot promise that this year’s tournament will excite more than the previous ones. If you have read my article on chiboko footballI you will understand why...be the judge!

FINAL

Tomorrow will be the day the whole school has waited for, tomorrow we crown the best team in MaP. Will it be the favourites All Stars or will we see an upset as the mighty Konvicts have something to prove. All Stars boast some of the best attacking players in MaP, Javas, Waseem will prove a handful for any defence but Konvicts also have Bernard as main striker and his speed and trickery will surely prove a thorn in the sides of the stalwart All Stars defence. Speedy winger Andrew Hall who is the fastest person in school, may also have an impact on the outcome of the game. What is true is that both defences will have to be on their toes, Bayan will have to marshall his defence and Oteng will have to do the same if the respective teams are to succeed.

Predicted Starting Line-Ups:

All Stars

Sizwe

Nathan, Otee, Roger, Segolame

Javas, Maroba, Castro, Blaq

Johnty, Waseem

Konvicts

Tht Outsider guy

Ronnie, Bayan, Lesedi, Bridger

DYNAMITE COMES IN small packages!

If there is anyone in the football world who epitomises the phrase ' dynamite comes in small packages'it is undoubtably FIFA World Player of the Year Lionel Messi but MaP has its very own dimunitive football dynamite in the form of Leatile 'Malets' Monthe. The fleet footed captain of the impressive young Pharos side burst onto the MaP football scene proved himself to be a force to be reckoned with in years to come. Blessed with amazing courage and guile for one his size, 'Malets' out-thinks opponents, puts in defence splitting passes all whilst trying to avoid the over physical shoulder charges and rash tackles. He makes his team tick and is the only contender as Pharos talisman.

Although the Pharos lost all their games, their spirited performances and never-say-die attitude has earned them recognition as possibly the best young team in the Shibobo League this year.

Do Teams Wearing Red Really Do Better?

It is widely argued by football fans around the world that teams wearing red are more successful than their opponents. Concurring to the matter is the popular fact that three of the English premier leagues top four is attired in red, the teams being: Man Untd, Liverpool and Arsenal .The African champions Al Ahly wear red as well. You might think it is one of those superstitious myths by footballers, but whether it is based on mythos or logos, Nicholas Hobbes has gone further to give the much needed facts.
“Statistics show that in Euro 2004, wearing predominantly red was worth an extra goal a game on average. At the very least, players find scarlet-clad easier to pick out against the green of a pitch-unlike Manchester United’s infamous grey strip that was blamed for a run of poor form.” All Stars proves this perception.

All Stars shine brightest!

Friday 19th March marked a historic day in MaP football: the much awaited Shibobo League 2010 finally kicked off!
Crisp white lines and newly fitted nets adorned the emerald stadium for the first time ever as the crowd waited with bated breath for the first game to kick off. The first game on field 1 pitted the mighty Konvicts, led by their tenacious captain Bayan B-Mac Jamali, against an unknown Mopipi side. Konvicts proved to be the better side as they controlled the game and raced away to a 4 nil win. The other game, on field 2, saw the MaP juniors locking horns with Mzekezeke. The game proved to be a simple walkover and the Yung Wuns’ emerged victorious with an emphatic 2 nil win. One of the most exciting games of the afternoon was the young, ambitious Izinyoka side against the old omniscient teacher’s team, led by Jonathan Laverick. On the day, though, raw, young ambition came out victorious with a thumping 6-2 win. But the best performance of the week has to be credited to tournament favourites, All Stars. A team comprised of the best and most talented football players in MaP. All Stars showed their dominance early on against Pharos, having the lion’s share of possession they quickly converted 2 of their chances through the speedy boot of their striker JonT. Midfield Maestro Michael Maroba proved to be one of the most influential players on the day, orchestrating All Stars attacks and manging to bag a hat-trick of goals for himself. All Stars proved too strong a team for the young, fragile Pharos and sent the kids packing home with an 8 nil spanking. Is this All Stars win a forecast of things to come or is there an upset on the cards?
